Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings could be heading towards one of the biggest trades in IPL history ahead of the 2027 season, involving Hardik Pandya, Ayush Mhatre and Shivam Dube.
Hardik Pandya's future at Mumbai Indians has become a major talking point following IPL 2026. Speculation surrounding internal differences within the franchise and a lack of support from sections of the fanbase has raised questions about his continuation with the five-time champions.
Pandya was initially linked with a return to Gujarat Titans, the franchise he led to the IPL title in 2022. However, a possible reunion reportedly faced difficulties over the captaincy position, with GT unwilling to replace Shubman Gill.
Kolkata Knight Riders also emerged as a potential destination, but discussions failed to produce an agreement.
Selfless Cricket understands that discussions surrounding a potential move to Chennai Super Kings have intensified, with Mumbai Indians reportedly interested in acquiring young batting sensation Ayush Mhatre and experienced all-rounder Shivam Dube in exchange for Pandya.
The proposed trade could significantly reshape both franchises. Mumbai Indians would strengthen their batting lineup with two Indian players, while Chennai Super Kings would acquire an experienced all-rounder and proven IPL captain.
There is also speculation that Hardik Pandya could become CSK's new captain, potentially marking a major leadership change ahead of IPL 2027.
An official announcement could arrive in November, ahead of the IPL 2027 retention deadline. However, neither franchise has confirmed the proposed agreement.
If completed, this could become one of the most significant player exchanges in IPL history.
